Hive Mentality

Updated: Mar 1

Starting Young

Hive Mentality began with a kid who was always trying to sell something. Duct tape wallets, bracelets, drawings. It was never about money. It was about making something and seeing if people cared. Before the sewing machine, there was just a sharpie, tape, some thread, and a dream. That hunger never went away.

Senior year brought a big project. First idea: a skate video. Friends moved on, and he was left with nothing. He switched to sewing. At first it was just for school, but it felt right.

“I didn’t think it would go anywhere, but I fell in love with the craft and started working every day.”

Making Real Clothes

He started by upcycling old jeans and moved to full cut and sew work from scratch. Every piece is handmade with real hands and real hours. Hive Mentality does not chase trends. The clothes are heavy denim and thick canvas, built to last and meant to be worn hard.

“I always thought my clothes stood out. They just didn’t get the right attention.”

The brand is for kids who want to stand out, skating through the city, punks, outsiders, anyone who sees things differently. There was no big launch, no overnight success. Drop after drop, sometimes nothing sold, but he kept going.

“It’s easy to get discouraged. I’ve had drops where nothing sold. But you just keep going.”

The designs are inspired by the past, especially World War Two, not in an obvious way but in structure and function. The clothes feel like gear, built to last. Heavy denim and canvas feel like armor for real life, not fashion week.

Looking Ahead

Some pieces will eventually be more affordable for kids who want in but cannot swing a one-of-one. Manufacturing may come later, but the handmade work will always be the heart of the brand. It started on a bedroom floor and it will grow, but it will never lose what made it special.

“Your ideas will work. It’s just a matter of time.”
